I don’t remember anyone talking about selling their car to Carvana on Oppo yet so I thought I’d make a post about my experience.
I checked my car’s value on Carvana a few months ago since I knew used car prices were way up due to the pandemic, and I heard Carvana in particular was making good offers. I plugged in the numbers and to my surprise I got an appraisal of $19k, close to $3k higher than the trade-in value only six months ago.
This motivated me to do a silly thing and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and sell this one. I waited a little while after getting the new car to sell the old one, mainly waiting for the title to arrive after I paid off the loan, and I was a bit nervous that values had started to drift back down again, but Carvana offered me $19,303 when I did the online appraisal last week.
After making the appointment Thursday, they came to pick up my car Saturday and it was super painless. The Carvana guy took my car for a 15 minute test drive, after which I signed some forms and he handed me the check, put the car on the flatbed and drove off. Altogether it took about 30 minutes. Super easy! If you’re looking to sell a car and don’t want to go through the private party/Craigslist rigamarole, I’d definitely recommend it.
So long! I’ll miss the dark blue a little...

You’re the second this year, at least. Very similar experience report, sounds like they make it as easy as possible.

Nice, sounds super easy! Been thinking about finding a way to get rid of my Bolt lease...tried their site but unfortunately they don’t operate up here in Oregon :(

I’ve been having trouble making the Ranger disappear. I just plugged it into the Carvana calculator and their offer is more than I want to sell it for.
Hmmmm...

Nice! Maybe I should write up my experience on selling to Vroom. It wasn’t as uh smooth but the offer was very good

Just out of curiosity, how much would you want for your Bolt?

I’ve been going on Carvana every week checking the price of my car. While their offer has definitely improved, they are still hitting me with a market value adjustment of ( $1000) to ( $2000). I’m definitely going to trade in the car if I get to a point with no market value deduction.

I’m not going to say I’m mad at their appraisal of my Corvette.
Just...disappointed.

I’ve done quite a bit of business with Carvana and it’s been a really good experience each time. I am a very big fan

Funny...Carvana picked up my 2018 WRX yesterday.
They offered me a couple hundred over my lien payoff and given that I just accepted a job where I need a different brand vehicle to make my life easier, I took the offer. I hate doing private sales and dealers never give me what I owe or what even KBB says is fair.
W
ith the exception of me having to poke the Carvana team to review my uploaded documents before my offer expired, the whole process was painless.
I set the pick up for yesterday and a rep communicated with me the timing and actually asked to do it a bit earlier than the scheduled time. She looked over the vehicle while I took off the license plate and removed the last of my personal possessions.
We did the ppwk and she handed me a check for the difference in purchase price vs. lien amount.
She tagged it and put a lock box on it for the tow truck driver that would come later in the afternoon.
Simple and painless. I’d recommend it to others.

Yes...do it. Strike while the market is up because you know it’ll come crashing down sooner than later. #thanksobama

I got a good offer from Vroom for my GTI, but when it came time to pull the trigger I couldn’t get past the contract specifically saying that they had no liability for damage from the time my car left my home in NH until it got to Texas. I called for clarification and was told that the independent drivers they use have insurance but they recommend that I keep my insurance active in case something happens. Bullshit. We sign all the paperwork, they take the car, at that point they should be covering it.
Ended up talking to a guy at the local Chevy dealer, they took the car off my hands for $500 less than Vroom’s offer and there was no drama or sketchy contracts.

Yep - I didn’t like the whole independent driver thing. It was kind of a shot in the dark when they would arrive too. The whole experience was and involved a lot of calls to Vroom to clear things up. We were originally going to sell to Carvana but Vroom came in about $500 higher. Was it worth the hassle? Not sure.
You sold the GTI? What replaces it? I still have mine, the car I sold was an 18 Jeep Cherokee.

Yeah. I’ve done a lot of selling this year. My wife has developed some health problems that make me uncomfortable with her driving something without automatic emergency braking etc. She refused to drive my GTI because it’s not an EV (Autobahn so it had all the safety gear ), so I sold it and traded her Volt in on a Bolt. I also sold the 996.
So I’m let with my old 2006 Sequoia as my daily. I’ve been entertaining the idea of picking up a used wagon (BMW, Volvo, possibly Subaru) for a daily, but I don’t feel like having a car payment so it’s be older. Once the world decides to go back to normal I’ll buy something nice and newish again. Possibly a Stinger or Arteon.

I honestly don’t know...will have to find out what my lease buyout amount is and go from there. Are you local (I’m in Portland)?
Expecting to WFH until next summer or so at this point...so part of the calculus is what happens then. Happy to keep you looped in if/when I have some more solid direction on this.

I'm not local - I'm in Southern Alberta. I've been keeping my eye on used Bolt prices. I'm hoping to eventually get one to replace my 2001 Civic.

Im assuming carvana favors newer cars with lower mileage. I plugged in my STi just for curiosity sake (hooray spam email now since I have no interest in selling regardless lol). But yeah it came back with $4552. Which is obviously a bit low even if the car was a rusty pile instead. Im curious what it would show with lower mileage but it wont let me fudge around with that due to my mileage being reported to autocheck at some point.
Sounds neat how simple it is though for newer cars!

If I was really in a pinch, I could sell my car for only 2 grand less than what I bought it for. I thought it was depreciating much faster but I suppose not.
Though I’d have to really be in a pinch, cause I love my car.
